‘Assisting the retired priests to remain safe and independent within their chosen environments.’

Fr Thang Vu who will continue in a role with the new office of Clergy Life and Ministry with a particular focus on those priests who are in retirement.

The Director works with two Clergy Care Workers who are also Registered Nurses – Clergy Care Team (CCT) (funded by the PRF) to provide assistance to the approximately 100 formerly active now retired clergy from the Melbourne Archdiocese.

The CCT also facilitate access to support services for priests in parishes who may require assistance during and or after a significant life event. Access to these services enables priests to continue to carry out their priestly ministry in the best possible way. For example, a Clergy Care Worker can coordinate the necessary support for a parish priest at the onset of an acute illness, this may include arranging in-home care and domestic help.

Upon turning 70 priests can expect a call and a visit from the Clergy Care Team who will work with him in the ensuing years to prepare for his retirement at age 75. A Clergy Care Worker can assist and guide a priest to put in place a plan to manage his health so as to enjoy a fulfilling productive retirement.

The Clergy Care Workers assist all retiring and retired priests to remain safe and independent within their chosen environment.

Further information about the actual financial and logistical mechanics of retirement can be found via the PRF.
