Permanent formation is a requirement of
the clergy’s own faithfulness to his ministry, to his very being. It is love for Jesus Christ and fidelity to oneself. But it is also an act of love for the People of God, at whose service the clergy is placed.
(PDV 70)
The first phase of this journey corresponds to the years immediately after priestly ordination. In this period,
the clergy acquires, thorough the exercise of the ministry, fidelity to the personal encounter with the Lord and to his own spiritual accompaniment, along with the openness to asking advice of clergy with more experience.83 The Gift of Priestly Vocation
